Planting Dates for Pacific Northwest

Spring Planting Chart

  • April 15 to 20: Asparagus, leeks, parsley, spinach and lettuce transplants.
  • May 1 to 5: Beets. Broccoli, cabbage, carrots (summer), cauliflower, celery root and celery transplants; corn; cucumbers and melons as long as soil is warm enough; lettuce seedlings; onion sets; potatoes planted in hills or rows if space allows — do not plant in hills before May 1 or later than June 10 in most areas of the region; radishes sow direct outside only if soil temperature reaches 50 degrees F at 4 inches deep (or transplant them into containers if temperatures drop below this level).
  • May 10 to 15: Beans (pole), broccoli raab, Brussels sprouts and cabbage transplants only if frosts are not expected during planting time period * ; garlic cloves * ; kale (seedlings); kohlrabi seeds directly sown outside * ; summer squash such as zucchini planted directly into warm soil with ample moisture expected — use plastic mulch or black canvas until germination occurs but remove once fruit begins forming by removing it from side opposite that which was used for seeding. This can be done manually by removing the mulch layer entirely off a short section of row at one time but make sure all remains have been loosened so it doesn’t create another problem later on down way when harvesting time comes around again! If possible move these plants up against north facing fence posts where sun won’t shine directly upon them while they’re still young–this will help keep weeds away without disturbing their roots too much!
