The Gallatin Valley Farmers Market got its start in 1982 when an effort was started to find a way to bring more produce into the valley. At the time, there were only a few small grocery stores in the area and farmers didn’t have much opportunity to sell their products outside of local fairs and festivals. In order to make the market viable, it was decided to create a permanent location for it and the Gallatin Valley Farm and Craft Market was born.
Since its inception, the market has continued to grow and change with the community it serves. In 2001, it moved from its original location on Main Street to its current location on East Hickory Avenue. In 2007, it began offering weekend breakfast service as part of its cultural programming lineup.
