Indianapolis

Indianapolis is the capital and most populous city in Indiana, as well as its largest one. It was founded in 1821 by settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee. The city’s location on the White River made it a natural choice for a trading post for early American settlers, who named their new town after the sovereign of their own country: Indiana. It has been selected to hold several major conventions since then—including the first National FFA Convention in 1928—and is now home to more than 2 million people within its metropolitan area.

The city boasts many historic landmarks such as Monument Circle, Market Square Arena and University Park Mall (which opened in 1965). Indianapolis also has a number of museums: Herron School of Art & Design houses nearly 4,000 pieces of art; Children’s Museum offers hands-on activities for kids under 5 years old; Eiteljorg Museum honors native peoples with exhibits detailing prehistory up until today’s Native Americans; Historical Society has documents dating back to 1822 that tell stories about life in central Indiana during different time periods…
