Chihuahua Growth Chart In Pounds
This breed of dog is a classic. Small and energetic, they make great pets for singles or people who live in small apartments. But how big do they get? Here’s the answer in pounds:
6 Weeks – 2 Pounds
Note that at this point, your puppy is only 2 pounds. This makes sense because these are the earliest days of their life.
Now that your Chihuahua is 6 weeks old, it’s time to start feeding them solid food. You’ll want to begin with a high-quality puppy formula (ideally one made by a company specializing in nutrition for pets).
12 Weeks – 3 Pounds
This is a good size for a puppy, and it’s also a good weight for a Chihuahua. This is the weight you should expect your puppy to be at 12 weeks old if you’re keeping track of how much he’s gaining each week. The average female chihuahua weighs between 2 and 5 pounds, according to most sources. If you take your pet to get weighed by your veterinarian every month or so, they’ll probably tell you this information as well—and they might even give him some food recommendations based on his age!
16 Weeks – 4 Pounds
You are probably wondering if your Chihuahua is growing at the right pace. The good news is that this is a good size for a Chihuahua, and it’s also a good size for a puppy, baby and young dog. This can also be considered to be a good size for small dogs as well since it’s in the middle between very small and slightly larger than average.
As you can see from the chart above, they tend to grow much faster than other breeds of dog would normally grow at this age range. They will continue their rapid growth until they reach around 18 weeks old before slowing down somewhat so that they can mature further physically (and mentally).
20 Weeks – 5 Pounds
At 20 weeks, an average Chihuahua will weigh around 5 pounds. This is based on the average weight of a full grown Chihuahua, not one that is still growing and being fed by his mother. This means that most healthy puppies at this age are likely to be somewhere between 4 and 6 pounds in weight. Puppies can grow quickly during their early weeks, so it’s important to monitor your puppy’s growth using veterinary records and our chart as a guide. If you see any signs that your puppy isn’t gaining weight or seems underweight, consult with your vet immediately!
24 Weeks – 6.5 Pounds
24 Weeks – 6.5 Pounds
At 24 weeks, your Chihuahua is about the size of an adult cat. In this stage, he will weigh between 6 and 8 pounds. A female Chihuahua would weigh around 7 pounds in 24 weeks while a male would weigh around 8 pounds at this time.
9 Months – 7.5 Pounds
At 9 months, you Chihuahua will weigh around 7.5 pounds and be about 16 inches tall. This is the stage when your puppy will start eating regular dog food instead of puppy food. You can also take your pup on walks (with supervision) or let them play with other dogs that are roughly the same age.
12 Months – 8 Pounds
- At 12 months, your Chihuahua should weigh between 8 and 10 pounds.
- This is the average weight for a full-grown Chihuahua.

Our Chihuahua Puppy Growth Chart (in pounds) will give you an idea of how much your puppy is likely to weigh when full grown.
- The weight of your Chihuahua puppy will vary depending on their breed and gender, the quality of their diet and environment, as well as other factors. For example, if a female Chihuahua weighs less than 1 kilogram (2 pounds) at 7 weeks old, it may be because she’s still growing and gaining weight quickly; but if she weighs more than 2 kilograms (4 pounds) at 7 weeks old then there could be something wrong with her diet or environment.
