Cannabutter Ratio Calculator

The cannabutter ratio calculator is designed to help you figure out how much cannabutter to use in your recipe. If you don’t know what the ratio of butter to cannabis should be, this calculator will help you figure it out! There are four categories of ratios: 1/4 ounce per cup of butter (7 grams), 1/2 ounce per cup of butter (14 grams), 3/4 ounce per cup of butter (21 grams) and 1 ounce per cup of butter (28 grams). The calculator will automatically select which category best fits your needs based on the amount you input into the “Amount” field. Once selected, just enter that amount into the “Cannabis” field and hit calculate!

First, you need to know what ratio you are using. Choose from the options below:

You’ll want to begin by choosing the ratio you’re working with. We have several options for you to choose from:

  • 1/4 ounce of cannabis (7 grams) for every 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter
  • 1/2 ounce of cannabis (14 grams) for every 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter

Step 1 of 4: What ratio?

There are many cannabis cooking ratios.

The most common is 1/4 ounce of cannabis for every 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter, which will yield about 3 cups of cannabutter. If you need more than that, simply multiply the proportions by 4x’s and cook for longer than the recommended time.

If you want to start small, try using 1/2 ounce of cannabis for every 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter. This will yield about 2 cups at a time.

1/4 ounce of cannabis (7 grams) for every 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter

To make 1/4 ounce of cannabis (7 grams) for every 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter, you will need to use 13.5 grams of decarboxylated cannabis.

1/2 ounce of cannabis (14 grams) for every 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter

  • 1/2 ounce of cannabis (14 grams) for every 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter

If you want to make a large batch, just multiply the amount of each ingredient by the number of cups or sticks of butter in your recipe. For example, if you want to triple your recipe and make 3 cups or sticks of cannabutter, then multiply all ingredients by 3 and follow these steps:

3/4 ounce of cannabis (21 grams) for every 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter

To measure the amount of cannabis you will need to make your cannabutter, first weigh out 21 grams of cannabis and then divide it into four equal portions. Then, use these portions to measure out 1/4 ounce each.

Next, set up a cup or container with your butter at room temperature on a scale and begin adding in the ground marijuana. Begin by adding one portion of ground weed to the butter (7 grams), stir it thoroughly, and then weigh this combined mixture again. If you have used more than 7 grams at this point—for example if you accidentally added an extra quarter ounce due to human error or some other reason—you should remove some of the cannabutter from your final product so that it does not become too strong for consumption by those who do not wish for such potency levels in their edibles (this is especially important if you are making edibles for children).

After weighing out all four portions of ground marijuana thoroughly mixed with butter over several rounds until all 21 grams has been incorporated into the recipe’s total weight (approximately 2/3 cup), pour everything into a container labeled with “Cannabutter” on its lid so that no one else mistakes what’s inside!

1 ounce of cannabis (28 grams) for every 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter

This is the most common ratio, as it produces a high potency butter that is often used in recipes. Many home chefs use this ratio to make cannabis-infused butter for cooking. The ingredients must first be prepared by decarboxylating the cannabis and then simmering them together for about an hour at low heat. When finished, the butter should be refrigerated so it can cool completely before using or storing it in an airtight container (or jar).
