Black Eyed Peas Recipe New Years

Black Eyed Pea Recipe New Years. This is a southern recipe for Hoppin’ John and it’s delicious.

  • 1 pound black eyed peas
  • 1 pound ham hocks
  • 1 pound smoked turkey wings
  • 1 pound smoked ham hocks
  • 1 pound pork spare ribs

To make this dish, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 3 cups of rice (uncooked)
  • 1 cup of black eyed peas (uncooked)
  • 1/2 lb. sliced deli ham, chopped into cubes or strips
  • 1 large yellow onion, diced into small pieces
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced into small pieces
  • 8 cloves fresh garlic, minced or pressed through a garlic press

Directions: Cook the rice according to the directions on the package. In a separate pan over medium heat, cook the ham until it starts to brown slightly. Add 1 tablespoon olive oil and cook onions until they are translucent with just a bit of browning on some edges. Stir in bell peppers and cook for another 5 minutes until they start to soften slightly but still retain their crunchy texture. If needed add more olive oil at this point so everything isn’t sticking together too much on bottom surface where there is no liquid yet from cooking meat & veggies off heat source (not yet added). Once meat has been cooked sufficiently add garlic then stir together well before adding drained black eyed peas & spices; salt & pepper should be added at this stage as well since residual water from boiling veggies would dilute flavor otherwise if added after cooking was complete

When you’re done cooking, don’t forget to add salt and pepper to taste. But be careful: It’s easy to overdo it! Add a little bit at a time, tasting as you go along. If you want more garlic or onion flavor, add more! Just keep in mind that this will affect the taste of the beans when they’re done—so if they’re already perfect for your taste buds now then wait till later before making any changes.

Also remember that black-eyed peas are very soft once cooked—so don’t expect them to hold together like canned beans do!

A recipe for hoppin John

This is a recipe for hoppin John, a traditional dish eaten on New Year’s Day to ensure prosperity in the coming year. It’s made with black eyed peas and rice, and it has become a staple of Southern cooking. Traditionally, you throw everything into one pot and let it cook for at least an hour or two. However, this version is much simpler because we’re using canned black eyed peas instead of dried beans. If you have time though I recommend making your own black eye peas—it will make this dish taste even better!
